Common Visa Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have functional English proficiency
  • Hold private health insurance
  • Genuinely intend to stay temporarily in Australia for the intended purpose
  • Meet health and character requirements

Sponsorship: Sponsorship by an approved Temporary Activities Sponsor is required

Occupational Trainees: Nomination by sponsor required for activities such as:

  • Training for registration, membership, or licensing requirements
  • Training in occupations listed for the 407 Training Visa
  • Practical experience, research, or observation for overseas qualification
  • Training supported by a government agency or home government
  • Professional Development: Requires working overseas in a management or professional position; primarily classroom training in relevant skills
  • Visa Conditions: The length of the visa is determined based on the training required; grants entry and stay period up to two years
  • Visa Grant: Allows travel to and entry into Australia after grant; stay period begins either on entry date or visa grant date
  • Employer Nomination: Employer nomination is required (sole traders or individuals cannot nominate)
  • Work Conditions: Condition 8102: Main applicant must not engage in work unrelated to the training specified Condition 8104: Secondary applicants must not work more than 40 hours per fortnight
  • Visa Processing Time: Approximately 71 days to 4 months; bridging visa may be available if current visa is expiring
