The Genuine Temporary Entrant requirement (GTE) is in place to ensure that the temporary visa program is used appropriately, preventing people from using it as a way to stay in Australia permanently. Generally, temporary residents cannot extend their stay in Australia beyond four years by applying for this visa.

The GTE requirement applies to all applicants for temporary activity visas. When evaluating your visa application, the officer will assess whether your individual circumstances indicate a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily.

To meet the GTE requirement, you need to convince us that you genuinely intend to stay in Australia temporarily. When evaluating the GTE requirement, we will take into account factors such as your personal circumstances, immigration history, compliance with visa conditions, the intentions of your parent, legal guardian, or partner if you’re under 18 years old, and any other relevant factors.

During your stay in Australia, it is important that you have the financial means to support yourself and any eligible dependents accompanying you. You may be required to present evidence of your financial situation, such as employment contracts, bank statements, or a letter from your financial institution indicating your financial position. Additionally, any allowances, accommodation, or assistance provided by your employer can be taken into account when assessing your ability to sustain yourself financially.
